Cleared for PT after 9 LOOONG Weeks!
October 31, 2013
Just went and saw my OS yesterday. He and his assistant were very proud of my recovery and also were proud of the job they have done thus far. It’s been a long ordeal, but I feel like I am finally rounding the corner in my recovery process. I realize there is so much more time left before I am 100%, but yesterday felt like a small victory to me.
The OS checked out my Achilles and said it looked and felt great. They cleared me for my first PT session starting Friday. I asked about ROM exercises and the like, but they want a physical therapist to take care of those steps for now.
I also asked about some upper calf and knee pain I’ve been having. I’ve been having some pain behind my knee, right beneath where it bends. They said it’s just the act of the muscles stretching out again, and that I can expect that type of pain. It hurts most when I walk, so I guess that’s what it is. Anyway, I’ll update tomorrow after my first adventure to the Physical Therapist’s office.
P.S. They also took the heel wedges out!!!!!!!!
Happy Heelin’!

If you’ve been kneeling a lot on your injured leg (as I did — e.g. when washing dishes, brushing teeth, etc.), you may have strained that leg. Or if you’re walking funny, you may be doing some harm. Or it’s just a leg waking up and complaining about being put back to work. Don’t do much “no pain no gain” stuff.

Congrats Justin.
So, you have done zero ROM work at 9 weeks, but they removed your wedges? I wonder how aggressive your PT will be. At any rate, I hope your first PT goes well, and good luck.

Hey Justin, just found your blog. I’m right down the road in York! Did you go to OSS? I’m about a month behind you. Great to hear your progress, that gives me hope!

Ron, I just started my ROM at PT on Friday, 2 days after the wedge removal. My PT is not very aggressive at all and won’t be for awhile. Apparently what I’m being told is that I had a horrible, horrible, horrible tear and that getting back to normal is actually going to take some time. Right now I’m looking at a 1 year recovery, a total of 15 months since the injury. In any regard, I intend to be fully healthy, 6 months from now. But I’m going to do what the doctor says, and play it safe.
Reasonsformoving, hey there! I used to work in York at Harley! It’s cool to know someone is in the same boat as me. By the way, this must be a Central PA classic injury! I know about 3 other people who have done the same recently. What’s in our water?? haha
