Compression sock

Filed under: Uncategorized — jackinva @ 3:45 pm

I bought one last week on Amazon, and it has been doing wonders to keep the swelling down!  I’ve been FWB in the boot for almost 2 weeks and EVERY DAY my foot and ankle have swelled up tremendously. Since wearing the sock (it’s actually a sleeve /brace) I have had hardly no swelling at all. Am still icing everything a few times a day, and also elevating -but  it’s so much more comfortable doing so without the foot swelled up like a football when I start!

On another note - almost 2 years ago I experienced extreme back and leg pain and discovered I have 2 herniated lumbar discs (L3-4 and L4-5). Have been treating them with epidural injections and (so far) they have been working very well - the last series of shots were in May and June a year ago, and I’ve been pain free since then. UNTIL THIS PAST WEEKEND - I’m fairly certain that the sciatica pain is due to the imbalance of my legs (boot on left foot VS work shoe / tennis shoe / sandal on right foot). Looks like I will be begging for epidurals this week along with going 2 shoes.

  1. Sounds good to hear the compression sock work. I will have to remember that. Do you think I could use it when I go partial weight bearing in the boot? I hope your back gets to feeling better soon!

  2. Hey Dana. I ordered the sock specifically for PWB and FWB in the boot. I noticed that my foot really started to swell up a lot once I started to slowly add more weight to the foot and let up on the crutches, and I was also on my feet at work a lot more than I had been during the previous weeks. I’ve got a feeling that I’ll be wearing the sock once I get my shoes back on later this week too.
Thanks for your concerns, and I hope your recovery is coming along well too.
    Slow, small steps!

  3. The only downside of a compression sock early in rehab — like PWB — is that putting it on and taking it off can seem pretty scary. When “normal people” put tight socks on, they actually use a LOT of AT, but we’ve got to find ways to use less.

  4. Agree with norm, just open with hands near at when taking on and off, it’s pretty easy if you bare that in mind, I found only needed sock when fwb as I upped the rehab

  5. I loved my compression sock and wore it religiously from 8 week until about 4 months or so. It even seemed to help with the pain of my weight during all those 8-9 hours days of standing and walking around my classroom Although, I’m happy that I have retired them, they were a big asset during my recovery.

BTW I took mine on and off exactly how RRR described.
