BACK TO WORK!!!!!
After TEN WEEKS I made it back to work yesterday afternoon! I feel like I’m becoming a useful member of society again! I tried to spend as much time sitting at the desk as I could, but still managed to get up and slowly move around the shop floor using the crutches and lightly placing weight on my booted foot. It’s been 5 weeks NWB since surgery and almost 1 week out of the cast. I did get considerable swelling in the foot, but I’m betting that is because I’ve spent most of my time at home with my foot raised, and yesterday it was on the floor all ” day long. I iced it when I got home and it’s back to “normal” this morning. Am taking an ice wrap to work with me and use it there as time and work load permit.
SLOWLY, my train is moving out of the station and starting down the road to recovery!
I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Keep on keepin’ ON!!!!
Jack

You too, Jack. Impossible to elevate at work? As long as you’re icing there…

Joss, I had surgery on March 7th, but went into a cast (instead of Das Boot) on March 15th for 4 weeks. NWB that whole time in the cast and had my toes sticking out, so the boss didn’t want me on the shop floor (I didn’t want to either). Have been in the boot (again) since last Wed. and other than the swelling, it’s AWESOME! I’m still equalizing the weight between the boot and the crutches but have absolutely NO pain in the foot at all. Slowly working towards adding a little more weight to the boot and less on the crutches -SLOW is the word there!
Norm, I could prop the foot up at work either on the desk or a spare chair - am taking the ice pack with me today (gotta leave in about 5 minutes). Will let you know how tonight goes!
Thanks!

So Far So Good! Am on my 4th day (well. evening) of work and - to quote James Brown - “YEOOOWWWWW, I FEEL GOOD!”
I’ve been putting a little more weight onto the boot and letting up on the crutches and the foot feels amazing! Trying to “walk” a little more each day to slowly strengthen up the foot and ankle. Swelling isn’t as bad as it was earlier in the week. I brought an ice pack into work and wrap it on a couple times each shift for about 45 minutes each time. With the ROM movements, icing, and massaging, I’m really happy with the progress so far. Three more weeks in the boot.
