Ready to start recovery from 2nd Achilles Rupture

Ruptured first time end of August 09, surgery a few days later, hard cast for 8 weeks.  Got cast off, started rehab immediately, 10 days later re-ruptured…2nd surgery (this time surgeon grafted cadaver tendon to strengthen) …get cast off today and will certainly take it slowly.  Must say, psychologically, 2nd rupture about did me in…but I got thru it and ready to strengthen and recover.

    I am so sorry to hear about your re-rupture. Your surgeon must have felt terrible, too! Did he say anything about why it happened? Well, if it was going to happen anyway, maybe it’s good it happened this early in the game- it would have been even worse if it would have happened after you made it through all the months of rehab and you had to start over. This is a set-back, for sure, but you will get through it. Sending you healing thoughts!

    I am so sorry to hear that you re-ruptured. You have a great attitude though so I am sure you will heal even stronger.

    Did your doctor or PT gave you any indication why you re-ruptured? Did you feel anything unusual?

    Surgeon only had two other ruptures in 15 years of surgery. He just wants me to be careful, go thru rehab, should be good as new in one year…thinks I can start running again in 6 months.

    I will take rehab very seriously and cautiosly while at the same time pushing myself to improve…all I can do.

    It is very depressing - I know, I re-ruptured after 4.5 months….
    But now I am good! Of course weaker and not very flexible, but optimistic. If the surgery is succesful, you can run after 6 months.

    I was swinging a golf club…didn’t think that would have done it, but it did. Surgeon has done dozens of achilles surgeries, only had 2 others that re-reptured.
