Week 14- Calf muscle pictures
So, the picture on top is of my “calf muscle” when flexed. It’s still a smaller than my left, but is a HUGE improvement over where I was 6+ weeks ago.
The picture below is my attempt to compare left to right. Maybe if I had a tape measure or something, or a different angle, it would have been better, but anyway…my cats in the picture, so I figured I’d leave it in : ) His name is Valorian (Val) and he is 13 years old and super cool! He pretty much stayed by my side through this whole recovery and kept me company, as did my other kitty, Maru (named after the Hello Kitty character “Bad Badtz Maru”). They “lived” w/me on the couch while I spent those first few weeks of recovery “living” on the couch. Pets rock and help the healing process (when they’re not under foot trying to make you fall)!

Your calf looks great! Your scar is alot further inside than mine but mine still isn’t up the back. Interesting angle, I must say!
Val looks very regal! My Missy loved my down time. Now she doesn’t like me to leave the house! She was(&is) my constant companion. Everytime I come home she runs to jump on the bed like”Shouldn’t we be icing and elevating” which really means “Brush me and rub my tummy”. I tried getting her a companion named Bob last year but she was having none of that. She tortured the other kitty and wouldn’t let me near it so Bob got another home. Missy rules !

Ahhhh….so jealous…can’t even imagine being able to flex both feet….that day is coming though…have to admit…I”m a little nervous about pwb or I keep thinking what if I do something to the other leg.
love your kitty at the end of the couch and glad you posted him…..I love his name…what made you choose Valorian?
I agree pets get you through everything….cats, though, are notorious for tripping you when you least expect it.
LOL…so true Gail….with cats…sometimes it is all about them….especially when they wake you at 3 am because they think they need to be petted….I try to bury my face in the blankets or keep my eyes closed when Vivi shows up….she just digs and digs at the blankets until I respond….still….she never fails to make me laugh.

My husband chose the name Valorian. He reads those goofy dwarf and elf and people fighting evil sorcerers type books, and came up with the name. Hence, we just call him “val”. He is quite regal, and yes…both he and Maru do the 5 or 6am wake up of meowing, digging, making noise in the room stomping on crunchy stuff, etc….it cracks me, up, too, how clever animals are. Not to be underestimated
Try not to get too nervous about PWB…your body knows what to do, and how much it can handle. I actually went straight from NWB to FWB as tolerated, and once I “tested the waters” in the VACOcast, I realized how strong my leg really was, and each day it got stronger, and each day my body seemed to know how much weight to put on it, and all I had to do was just pay really close attention to not tripping over carpets or ice…but the body did the rest. We’re amazing machines! Just trust!

LOL…my husband reads those as well. Pets are indeed clever. Our Shelby, who is no longer with us, used to move the glass of water that was on the window ledge to the edge so that if not caught in time it would dump on our heads…..she also used to run across the clock radio and set off the alarm.
I’ll try not to be nervous….the body really is amazing and adapts well…I think it’s more the unknown than anything…I can handle any amount of pain or discomfort as long as I know what I might be feeling. I think it’s more the muscle weakness I’ve been reading about that scares me.
LOl…whenever I’m in the gym and I’ve had an incredible session…I just keep telling everybody “I am an Amazon”….my daughter says I’m too short…but I am an Amazon!

Hey Gailbuddy…yes, the camera angle did turn out kinda, well…interesting- especially w/the cat between my feet. I’ll just leave it at that
Anyway…yes, I do actually like the position of the scar as it relates to not being up the back of my ankle.
Missy sounds really cool. Funny about trying to get them companions. We had Val first, and 1 year later got Maru as a kitten, and to this day, they get along, but Val really just “puts up” w/Maru, and a few years ago we also tried to get another one (a kitten that was a stray that kept ending up in our tree), but those 2 wouldn’t have it. They tormented that poor little guy so we couldn’t keep him. They’re territorial with their “people” as much as they are with their areas, food, etc.
Happy healing!

Hi,
Your rupture is two weeks less then mine so I am jealous as your calf muscle looks better than mine well done to you!!! Other than that our ankles and scar look the same, same position, same thickness.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks, Heather! I’ve been doing a lot of PT and working out at the gym to try to get my calf muscle back…thanks for noticing
Cool that our ankles and scar look the same. Many pics I’ve seen of people’s scars (both on this blog, and on the internet, in general) are pretty gory compared to ours. I also think that the placement of the scar is pretty nice as far as not irritating from shoes and such. You keep up the good work, as well!
Happy Healing, and keep in touch, it’s always nice to hear from other’s in the same “recovery timeframe”!

aaaargh, I’m jealous of your calf muscle, I’m still waiting for mine to magically reappear…
