Here we go…Long road ahead

I ruptured my AT on Nov 10 playing basketball. I had surgery a week later on the 17th. At first I thought I had just sprained my ankle but after several days I decided to go to my family doctor where he did x-rays. After everying came back normal that is when he determined I had a ruptured AT. Since surgery I have had minimal pain. Mostly just dealing with swelling and learning to walk with crutches. I had a cast on for 2 weeks post op until my first follow up where they removed the stitches and then they placed another cast on for one more week. When I started therapy they told me to start using a boot and was given the go ahead to begin PWB still using crutches. The first therapy session was a little rough on me. During range of motion excercises I started getting real light headed and started getting blurred vision for about 10 minutes. Putting a cold towel on my face seemed to help. Curious if anyone else has experienced that. Since then I have not had any other related problems during therapy.

  1. Crutches are the worst! I got a knee walker, and while it’s not a perfect solution, it is a nice option to have. Not only for getting around the house, but for always having a nice stable place to rest your knee on and stand at the kitchen counter or whatever. I got one off Ebay. Get better every day!

  2. I too had what seam to be an unsusual reaction during my first PT appt. When PT started pushing my foot up really hard, I became very hot and started feeling nauseous. He stopped, gave me some cold water and in a few minutes I was fine. My PT says that this is the way my nerves reacted to movement after my fiit was motionless for a few weeks.

  3. I have gotten the ’swoons’ at every milestone. I think it is me worried about the next step and not my body reacting.
