Down to 1 crutch!!

Filed under: Boot — Jenifer @ 4:02 pm

Finally down to 1 crutch and I seem to be putting more and more pressure on my foot. I can hobble around the house with no crutches with the help of counters and furniture on some occasions. I’m now finding that the hot weather and use during the day make for a nice recipe of swelling and stiffness in my foot starting in the early afternoon into the evening and burning along the tendon. Stretching is painful and I’m hoping this goes away as my flexion becomes better but the burning as I stretch scares me….I guess this is normal as I have not had any problems.  I’m icing for the swelling in the evenings… seems to he help but wondering how long the swelling will continue to happen?

  1. im only about two weeks in (after surgery) how long did it take you to get down to one crutch? im hoping my day for that is coming soon..

  2. ibjc,
At almost 27 weeks, I still get some swelling by the evening. Are you wearing a compression sock? These were a big help to me and reduced the swelling greatly.

  3. It took 2 months and I was so disappointed when I got my cast off that I wasn’t allowed to put any pressure on it. Not that I could have if I wanted too. I’m just now starting to walk without too much pain but it doesn’t last long before I’m worn out, swollen and sore. Just take it easy and listen to your Dr. I was told it takes every bit of 4 months with no complications to be released from the Dr. care and I’m only 10 weeks in and it feels like time has slowed down. Good luck and just take one day at a time.

  4. No compression sock but I will get one for sure. Worried about flying as my feet swell anyway on flights so I guess I need the sock anyway!!! Thanks I’ll do anything to make this feel better!
