Today I want to thank all of you, my fellow ATR sufferers.
Because of you I am a bit more optimistic and far better informed. In my darkest days, this blog was my refuge, my companion, and my hope. Many of you gave me advice and support, and for that, I am grateful.
Things are looking better for me, today I took my first steps in two feet, barefoot on a soft carpet. My foot feels strange, my ankle weak, my balance uncertain.
But I have a vision, I can see myself, in a day not too far away, walking normally.
This too shall pass, stay hopeful!
Hey housemusic…..I asked my therapist about the massage issue and she said it would almost be impossible to re-puture an achilles just with massage. She said that with the material they use to stitch it up it is very strong and maasage will not tear it apart. Hope that helps. We seem to be on the same track with our recovery. I also got permission to walk around the house in 2 shoes or barefeet, and starting Monday can head outside to face the world in 2 shoes! Just a bit worried because we have had snow and then melting and I am sure that there is going to be a fair amount of ice around. Not quite sure how to handle that, but like everything else on this journey I suppose it will be one step at a time!
Congrats housemusic, its a scary but good feeling. Make sure you focus on your walking form for the next couple of weeks instead of trying to get back up to full walking speed as it will serve you far better in the following weeks.
Thank you for the help, and congrats Nivergvup on the 2 shoes!
Like you, I am anxious about facing a world full of obstacles. For now, I am walking in 2 shoes inside the house. I do not feel well balanced, so I still use the boot to go outside. However, it is a huge improvement from being on crutches. I also checked with the doctor, and they said the same about the material used for stitching being very strong. I still have nightmares about rerupturing, or rupturing my good one!
In the meantime I concentrate on my form, and go slow.
That’s good to hear, Housemusic! I’m glad you’re feeling better mentally. I think the fears of rerupturing your achilles is kind of like when pregnant women dream about falling down the stairs with the baby in their arms. Your achilles repair is what you’re protecting now like a baby, so it’s no wonder you’re having these unfounded fears (don’t you love my arm chair psychology?!). Anyway, good luck with your two shoes!
