About Me

At the time of the Achilles Tendon Rupture, I was a 13-time Ironman finisher and in the best shape of my life as I was preparing for my 14th race at Ironman Lake Placid. While playing tennis, I hit a serve, landed fairly gently on my left foot and “pop” my Achilles snapped.

This was not a total surprise since both of my Achilles have been bothering me over the past few years (worst last year) but I sought treatment and thought I fought it off. Aside from the post-race pain from a recent Half-marathon, the Achilles pain was fairly non-existent.

I had surgery on June 1, 2008 and now I look forward to making a full and speedy recovery.

I found the achillesblog.com website and it provided tons of valuable information from many others in the same boat. So I figured why not add my own experiences in the hopes that it might be helpful to others as well. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Dear Hoss. I´ve been reading the information you have written of the 10 weeks post surgery.
I had the same surgery technique applied, but in BOTH LEGS !
I broke the first one on Septembe 2|nd and the right one on September the 22nd
I,m going trough my 10 th week, but as I had surgery on both of my legs I´m not alloud to walk still. I believe in the next 20 days I´ll start doing it with crutches.
I move without a cast all over the place in a wheel-chair using my legs but not putting any weight on them.
I think that your report about your experience is great and tremendously helpful for all of us that are going trough this so long and boring experience.
Thank you again for sharing it, I keep reading it week after week ( so as not to get anxious) and i register all your experiences and the progresing you are doing .

Wow! Both? That is crazy. I feel for you.
When I was in my cast and hopping around on one leg, I was always thinking about what if the other leg went on me.
All the best to you. Keep me/us updated for sure. You will surely have a unique perspective and great information for everyone.
Thanks for reading and posting.

I am almost one month post op and I bought a LED light therapy unit that has made a world of difference in my recovery. This near infared light activates your cells to speed up your healing process. My goal is to be walking in a shoe at 8 weeks post op.
