Week 46 - Back to the courts

19 04 2009

Yesterday and again today, I made my return to the tennis courts. The first time since the rupture on May 29th of last year. Yesterday I played for 1 hr and 48 minutes, and just 35 minutes today.

The Achilles felt fine, but every other body part is aching. I think I need a new shoulder. I did make use of the Pro-Tec Achilles Tendon brace yesterday (www.injurybegone.com) as a precaution. The pressure of the brace produced more discomfort than any movement I did. Seeing that I had zero pain today, it must have worked. Today I went without. I’ll find out tomorrow if I am sore.

All other training is fine. Just a few moments where the Achilles felt weird (pain, numb, etc.) but maybe it was just all in my mind. I have not been to physio in 2 weeks. Not exactly by choice, just a scheduling issue. I hope to pop back in for a visit this week.

Recover well everyone! See again on my ATR anniversary (or earlier).

Here are some training #’s if you are interested.

hoss,
sup man. nice to hear you are BACK!!!!
im impressed with the numbers you are putting out.

Im trying also to transition to sports again . i did say im not going to do it anymore but the past 3 weeks ive been in the tennis courts and i played my first basketball game gain.

i felt really lost in the game - not knowing if i should just try to play a different game , but then i also find myself at times , not knowing i was in thick of things which i dont want to get into yet.
its frustrating coz i use to be the best player there and now im just playing just to get in shape.

screwdriver,

great to hear from you.
it sure is tough coming back and finding that balance of how hard to go.
being too cautious can get you injured and obviously too hard can too.
i told myself that i would not run after any drop shots or jump into my serve.
i behaved for the most part but sometimes caught myself trying to run down balls. the achilles is pain free but by right arm and should is sore as heck. shin splints too. i want to play for my team very badly but i might have to bow out so i can concentrate on triathlon/duathlon.
best of luck to you with you bbal and tennis
congrats by the way, that one year anniversary is coming soon for you

Hoss,
Congrat’s! Thanks for sharing your story….always motivating to me. I too am back on the courts, doubles for now but it is great to not have pain in the heel. Now to deal with the knee pain ….it is always something. Here’s to continued recovery for all.

Hi Marilyn,
Good for you and the doubles. Don’t you love that the pain now pops up in other places? Take care of those knees. Happy healing.
