Sometimes I just can’t sleep

Thinking, thinking, thinking…

about L healing from his surgery (sweet, brave boy)

about how i am approaching 11 weeks NWB

about how i might get to PWB tomorrow at my dr. appt.

about how nervous i am about walking again (was hoping to just be excited about it)

about how after three months of on/off percocet due to three surgeries, i need to drink a lot more wine

about how grumpy i have been all weekend

about blood clots and weight gain and muscle atrophy and

…time for bed.

  1. Oh how well I know those feelings.

Just a minor blip in your recovery, it will pass and you will be positive again. Tiredness also make you exaggerate any minor problems you have. You need a refreshing sleep and all will be well.

    Good luck

  2. Starting to walk again is scary for all of us, but within a couple of hours of starting after the initial discomfort disappeared, I was smiling like an idiot. Don’t forget to reward yourself for all of the little steps. I bought myself a brand new pair of runners I didn’t really need when I went two shoes but I deserved it. And don’t feel guilty about being grumpy, losing your mobility and freedom for this long is not something to be happy about, we just tolerate it while we heal. Keep smiling, you will be feeling better soon. I hope your son is doing well. Happy healing.

  3. Hilary - hang in there. I’m your fellow SF’er, already back in the saddle with the tourists this past week. My tendon doesn’t hurt but the heel does; however, that’s regardless of driving or walking or sitting. I limp but somehow I don’t mind it, which surprises me. Today I even had a lady, about 55, a teacher from NJ, who herself had an ATR 3 years before. We compared scars!

If you are really, really bored, you could come with me as a tourist on my bus on the redwoods tour once you are PWB. We could walk in the woods and talk about the whole ATR nightmare, and you could be in the front seat with me on the return trip.

Think about it! You see my email above. Mary
