Driving with my boot!!??
Ive been really good the past 5 weeks, but all day today Ive been sitting here working from home doing ROM exercises and feeling sorry for myself. We have alternate side of the street parking rules here in Brooklyn due to street cleaning and a spot had opened up on the side that is not being cleaned tomorrow. So i jumped on my crutches and did what i have been doing which is putting my car in gear and letting it roll across the street. After i got it in the spot i sat there and tested my strength with the pedals while it was in park. After a bout 5 minutes of that I was on my way. I only drove a few blocks but it felt so good. Does anyone have any advice for driving with the boot?? Yeah i know its prob not the best idea but i figured i’d ask.
Thanks
Hello - I begged my doctor to let me drive - I am 4 weeks post-op, but he actually told me in PA that it would be illegal. And if for some cosmic reason, something should happen, I have to much respect for my doctor that I wouldnt’ want him to get into trouble, and I couldn’t live with myself. I’m hoping that when I go back for the 6 week post-op, I get a green light to drive. Just be careful!! How jealous am I that you were behind the wheel!!!
no advice but I admire ( long for????) your few blocks in a car. Males me think to make a playlist about “drive” of driving” songs for all of us ok
Dude:
I’m probably not the one to whom you should be listening on rehab. I must preface my response by saying that you must listen to your doctor first. With that said, I am six weeks post op and have been swimming for the past two and a half weeks although I was authorized to begin swimming only one week ago. As such, I have not really listened to my doctor as I should have.
I was driving with my boot on around three weeks post op. Again, w/o authorization. Now, mind you, I live in Atlanta and can avoid major traffic. Moreover, I only drove to the gym so that I could get an upper body workout. The only issue I encountered driving with a boot was that it was hard to accelerate. Also, your leg gets tired pretty quickly because you cannot rest your heel on the floor while depressing the accelerator and the brake.
Living in Brooklyn is a little different. I once lived in Cobble Hill (near downtown Brooklyn) and know that it may be very difficult to avoid traffic. I would suggest not following my lead on the driving with the boot. If you must, make it short trips and avoid traffic.
