First Dr Visit post surgery
February 12, 2009 | |
Got news I was not expecting today when I had my first follow-up visit with the surgeon. Surgeon was not present I only met with the PA. PA sawed my cast off - zero pain. Prior to cutting off cast she said she was going to look at the site to see how it looked if it looked good I would get a boot if it did not look good I would get a the cast put back on. To my pleasure there was minimal bleeding and swelling she said it looked good enough for the boot. Yeah! no heavy cast to lug around anymore. It seemed quick for me as I have not heard of anyone else really only wearing the hard cast for one week, she even said I could start with some range of motion excercises, after one week???? Is that normal? I trust the Dr’s office as they have a great reputation in Denver, I am more confident of their aggresive approach that it will hopefully speed along the recovery process. She said to stay of the foot as much as possible and that I can take off the boot for a shower. Needless to say I was both relieved and excited when I saw what the wound looked like. Forgot to take a picture although I never really got to see exactly what it looks like as their is tape over the wound and she said not to remove the tape however their was minimal blood coming through and that was a great sign in addition to minimal swelling. Whew!!! Spirts are high while my butt is firmly planted on the couch. Onward!

That’s great! My first post-op appt is tomorrow and I hope I get same great news you got.
Good luck Carl! PLease share the good news once you get it.
wait a second, you can already partial weight bear after one week!!! man i hope get that news Monday!!!
not so fast my friend, I am to stay off my foot so I am still NWB. Good luck on your apt!
i’ll see what my doc says but from the sound of it no showers, no putting the leg on the floor at all for 6 weeks. maybe he’s being conservative and it isnt as bad as it sounds but to take the boot off for a shower are you standing in the shower? i am sitting in the tub with the detachable shower head and i hate it. i just want a normal shower!!!
Don’t mind if I ask, how old are you? I’m 28 and had surgery the day before you did.
Thanks, Carl
Ganahlsearch: Sounds like your appointment went really well. Most Jedi surgeons do not leave you in a cast very long. The guy that did my first surgery wanted me in a hard cast for 8 weeks and then a boot for 8 more. Booo Thankfully I was rescued by another Jedi doc in Denver (Dr. Wayne Gersoff) and he took me out of the hard cast as soon as he met me (5 weeks). My new doc who did my last 2 surgeries NEVER put me into any kind of a hard cast. I also had to pull my leg out of the boot starting 2 days post-op and start trying to rotate my ankle. This made my recovery sooo much easier which I can say because I have done it both ways now. By 4 weeks post-op (surgery #2) I already had full range of motion. I am only 2 weeks post-op now and I am doing really well. I hope your recovery is comfortable for you. What do you think of this weather we are having? I am up for at least one more good snow storm but it needs to wait until we are all back in 2 shoes. What kind of work do you do?
Smish: God bless jedi surgeons you gotta love them, I am glad I got one!
As far as the weather I wouldnt really know only got out yesterday to go to Linbergs office. Going out today for dinner to night so I am looking forward to it
I recruit folks for the med industry mostly sales and marketing folks for manufacturers. Enjoy the weekend!
Carl,
I turned 33, 3 weeks ago.
You’re young too…hope you’re enjoying your boot!
So I just got back from my appt. However, I did not get as lucky as I ended up with a fiberglass cast and will be wearing it 24/7 for 3 weeks.
I actually don’t feel as bad since my ankle area was very swollen and purple. However, I am hoping the next 3 weeks will go fast
Ahhh, the darth vader big black boot, I presume? I’m in the same thing. I started my blog a little late, I’m actually a couple weeks post-op, so we should track each other’s progress. Good luck with everything!
