Cast is off for 2 days now…

Well the Cast is finally off…and I’m 7 weeks Post-Op on ankle #2. I watch the nurse cut that darn cast in half Tuesday afternoon, and I had a smile on my face that was from ear to ear.

Its only been 2 days since I’ve been freed from the cast and placed back into the walking boot…but I’m already walking around with only one crutch. The Achilles is weak and tight, but I’m not feeling any pain. With any luck I’ll be gimping around with no crutches by the time I start PT next Friday.

Oh I just can’t wait for PT to start…I love it!! If I’m lucky, I’ll get the same PT Tech that I had last time when my other Achilles was repaired last November.

Hang in there people…it get easier as time passes by.

Glad your sanity made it through!

Can’t you request a specific PT tech, rather than relying on luck?

glad your keeping the brian sain ,
one question for you and anyone else reading this.

as im on the crutches 3 weeks now the other leg (good one) is sore in the achillies region by the time i get to bed .

as you mentioned you only got your other achillies fixed last Nov has the over use of the good legs achillies anything to do with the rupture ?

iam already thinking that when i get to the physio stage I will need him to work on the good leg too.

So you’re telling me that once the cast comes off I still won’t be able to walk even with a limp? They have scheduled my first PT visit the same day the cast comes off

Pouting, there’s usually a few days of transition — PWB and/or WBAT — between NWB on 2 crutches and limp-walking with no support. Chris is going through that, and progressing to 1 crutch in the first 2 days isn’t bad progress. Being told you’re “cleared” to walk unaided and actually feeling OK DOING it are two different things. The AT is often a small part of it, and foot discomfort is often large.

I went from 2 crutches to a cane, to forgetting where I’d left the cane, in the course of maybe 3 or 4 days. (My blog remembers better than I do!) Some people grab the crutches again when they’re in a hurry — at least for a while! Similarly when you go from a boot to 2 shoes, you slow down for a while.

The day I went in and had the cast cut off I also had the appointment with the surgeon scheduled.

He told me to start putting the foot some weight on the foot, but don’t go crazy with that. I looked him right in the eye and said “Doc, I’m walking out of here today…there isn’t gonna be anyone to stop me”. He only laughed and wished me luck with that.

What did I end up doing? I WALKED OUT (with a bit of limping and stiffness) but I walked in the walking boot all the way to the car.
