About
At the time of my injury on February 4, 2014 I was 45 years old, and in pretty good shape. 5′8", 170lbs, run a 5K in the mid 20’s, surf and/or SUP at least weekly. Anyway, not a couch potato, but also not a gym rat.
I’ve been playing soccer since I was 10 and have a deep and abiding love for the beautiful game. In my younger days I lettered as a center midfielder, but as I aged I discovered the tendency to revert to grade school pickup games. Nobody playing 3rd division coed soccer wanted to play keeper. After separating my shoulder, and dislocating two fingers on my right hand (good thing I’m left-handed, but too bad I’m in software), I gave up playing. But then I fell in to a coaching position for U12 Futsal. If you’ve never played or watched Futsal, just stop here and go hit up youtube. No, go ahead- I’ll wait…
So I spent the winter coaching a U12 Futsal team. And then one day, in the deep dark recesses of the Charleston Rec Dept activity catalog - there it was: indoor soccer with essentially Futsal rules!
