Confused

Hi Folks, went to see my dr. last Thursday after four months in a cast. After all the reading I’d done, I was expecting to be placed in a boot and possibly start physical therapy. My dr. cut off the cast and said, “see you back in six weeks, work on stretching out your foot.” That’s it, no boot, no therapy, nothing fir six weeks. He said I’ll get the boot when I return after the six weeks and might start physical therapy then.

This is not in keeping with anything I’ve read about the recovery from an Achilles rupture. Any thoughts?

Swimming After Surgery

Hi Folks, anyone out there do any swimming soon after surgery? I’m a triathlete and with running and biking out for awhile was thinking of getting in the pool asap. Any advice/comments?

Thanks,
Aaron

Newly Injured

Hi Folks,

I tore my Achilles in my rugby club’s annual Over 30 vs. Under 30 match December 11. Had surgery last Friday, December 17.

I had been in training for a half ironman and the difficulty I’m having now is going from some form of activity literally everyday, to nothing.

Is there any type of exercise I can be doing at this stage a week after surgery? Crunches, leg lifts, and push-ups would be something, I’m just wondering about the wisdom of doing anything like that just yet.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks,
Aaron
