First night without the cast
Expected a blissful night sleep. Silly me!
Serious pain in my knee when I bend or straighten my leg (surprising how often you do that when you are asleep). Guess its the result of all the stored tension from a month of carrying my leg around bent.
Anyone else have this? Any tips? (Seeing the physio tomorrow so hopefully she will know…)
Thanks!

… and I cannot wait.
Doc said he will be removing the plaster and fitting a boot. So I am counting the days.
It really does feel like things are healing up. Keep having odd dreams about walking again but somehow it never quite working out for some reason!
Been back at work this week, including a 2 day conference in a hotel. Surprising just how tiring it is on crutches. But also how kind everyone in helping out.
Will not be sorry to say goodbye to this plaster. Still get the swollen feeling at night and hate it when the scar rubs up against it and feels irritable. Tingling and stabbing pains are far more manageable - and overall just can’t wait to start stretching, healing and just being able just to take the boot off every now and again.
Was great to get so many comments from my last post - thanks everyone!

Did anyone else have this?
Feels like the nerve ending are having a party in my plaster. Not especially painful - but sometimes quite uncomfortable, particularly at night for some reason.
I’m at week 3…
Thanks!

Stitches out - cast replaced - foot flatter - altogether more comfortable.
Couple more days at home - back to work next week.
Surgeon said “wound looks good”. My response was “that’s because it’s not your leg!”.
But feeling good. Two more weeks in plaster then into the boot.
Will try and post a picture of the scar. Not pretty but guess I need to get used to it!

Feeling a lot more cheerful now than a few days ago. I ordered a little table that I can use lying down (will put the link below) which is enabling me to work a lot easier. I’ve given in to just lying down most of the time - frankly my ankle just hurts a lot less that way, particularly when it’s raised. I’m sleeping well and have finally figured out a way of keeping my foot on the pillow! I’m off the painkillers completely so my head is clearer (not to mention some other beneficial effects).
And best of all - follow up with consultant is on Tuesday - so only 5 more days. Really hoping that the new cast will be a lot lighter.
Thanks for the posts - and good luck everyone

So, one week and one day in. How has it been? In a word - annoying!
The story in brief… playing 5-a-side last Sunday morning (23rd October). 20 minutes in a slight mis-control of the ball and suddenly I’m in a heap on the ground looking to see who kicked me from behind. Rush of pain and realisation that my Achilles has gone - no chance it could be anything else although I keep hoping. A&E by 2pm, home on crutches with it in plaster by 4pm - doctor thinks “at least partial rupture”. Saw the consultant on Monday - quickly diagnosed as complete rupture of right AT. Replaced the cast with a boot “as there is no more damage to do” and books me in for surgery two days later. Had the op on Wednesday (26th) and it went OK. Home on Thursday, and it’s tv, painkillers and couch since then.
And today… I’m thoroughly fed up and counting the days until my first follow-up next week! The worst thing is having to keep the leg raised…!
Love this site already - so good to hear from others in the same situation. Would love to hear from anyone who is a regular marathon runner and occasional footballer (as I am). And how long do you think it will take you to get back to things as normal (and did you intend to go back to footy?)
Also - from anyone as to how long they took painkillers after the op?
