Jogging again
Almost four months to the day since the rupture and happily things seem to be progressing quite to plan. I’m walking fine and have even started jogging again - back up to 2 miles so far but think I will take on 5 at the weekend. The main issues now are soreness in the morning and just the general level of swelling which still hasn’t gone down much. But the surgeon and physio are both quite relaxed about it and say it’s normal. So still wish it all hadn’t happenned, but I guess four months isn’t too bad and at least I’m up and about again. So for anyone reading this in the first few days (as I did obsessively back then) HANG IN THERE!

I am not in my first few days but I am at the 10 week mark since surgery and getting slightly discouraged. This post made me very happy and quite a bit more inspired and encouraged than I’ve allowed myself to be the past 2 days. Thank you for this.
I am just starting on my blog and I am going back and filling in the gaps (post dating) and telling my story. I’ve kept a journal, it’s nice to look back because I was so positive the first 8 weeks, I need to get back to that place. Your post might be the kick I needed, so thank you for the inspiration.
Running 5 miles at 4 months? Wow. That’s very impressive. Hell, I’m not sure I could have run 5 miles before the injury
Sounds like great progress to me, too! Congrats, and good luck with the run this weekend.
I ran a few hundred yards last week and was thrilled. You are doing great.
what was your weekly mileage prior to injury? I too started running at the 4 month mark. Started on the treadmill and built up to 2 1/2 miles. Then, when I did 3 on the road, my knee (on injured leg) started balking. Had to take a week off. It feels better now. I should have eased into the road work.
Hi Dave.
I had just done a half-marathon before the ATR - so was probably averaging around 15 to 20 per week - perhaps a bit less. I think my starting running again this time has been made a bit easier by the fact that I did a lot of walking and hiking in weeks 8-14 of my recovery, so my calf muscles have had chance to build up a bit. That said I stopped on Monday after two miles with a sore calf - although went out again on Wednesday (2 miles) and it was fine. Sounds like you will get your mileage up soon enough… good luck.
