A few good ‘firsts’

December 11th, 2011

Well - I’ve made it back to two shoes - at least round the house. I suspect I still may use the boot from time to time for being out and about.

Everything seemed to happen very quickly from going down to one crutch and one wedge about 10 days ago. As soon as I started to put some more weight on the right leg it almost came back to life, and within a few hours I was taking a few steps with no crutches. Both the surgeon and physio told me I could go into shoes as soon as it felt comfortable and I didn’t need much encouragement!

So this weekend has been great. First time out in shoes (crocs have been a good tip for round the house), a first swim yesterday and a first shower.

Hope I’m not moving too quick, but somehow my body is telling me to get going and instinctively it feels like it has to be better to be using the thing and starting to straighten it out and strengthen it.

Slightly worried about a bit of a lump that appears from time to time about an inch above the rupture. Doctor says it is nothing to worry about and will go over time.

Anyway - have happily updated my ‘ATR timeline” status - moved through FWB and into two-shoes in one update.

And although I wish this had never happenned, at least things seem to be moving forwards finally.

Of course I still go to City … been going for over 55 years now!! Yes I know I am old….Season ticket holder, Colin Bell Stand see my blog and as I just checked 4 years ago in April, can’t believe it is so long ago, done whilst chasing teenagers in the car park of our sons flat in wait for it, Sportcity, directly opposite Etihad Stadium.

I only check the site now and then and the first name I saw was Feedthegoat!!

Unfortunately I have never fully recovered, perhaps an age thing, but mainly because the op was not done very well. Had nearly 3 years on and off at physio without success. Physio’s at Lancashire County Cricket Club suggested I have it done again but I did not want to.

Due to this site I made several long standing email friendships which is a side benefit from the site. Dennis truly set up a great community

Unfortunate about Chelsea, should have been a penalty but we missed clear chances, never mind.

I seem to be having problems trying to post a reply, they seem to be rejected for some reason. Just testing with this one.

It was in the name of AnnieH, back in April 2008 if you can be bothered to try and find it anyway,

Hi AnnieH - I did look at your site - nice to see the pic of the Etihad! Who’d have thought there are so many City supporting achilles sufferers!?

Well, Chelsea wasn’t great but at least I got there and back safely in the boot. And Sunday was a lot better - didn’t go but watched on Sky. What a great game and a great result.

I’m sorry to hear you didn’t make a great recovery. I do hope that it’s not too painful or inconvenient for you. Fingers crossed I seem to be getting on OK for the moment but it’s obvsiouly a long old haul.

up the blues - feed the goat!
