A question about re-injury
Good morning,
I am currently a few days past 16 weeks and I was wondering what it would take to reinjure my Achilles at this point? I saw a video about a guy re-rupturing his at 16 weeks just walking up a hill so it made me wonder how safe am I at this point. I still have tightness, tender areas and aches, but I think those might be normal to have still at this point of my recovery? My PT told me yesterday to massage my Achilles area between my calf and heel because it was still tighter than the uninjured leg. I still have a limp that is more noticeable in the morning and almost goes away at days end. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks

very easy to avoid re-rupture at this stage…
1. avoid explosive activities (i.e. squash, badminton, box jumps etc)
2. don’t run on steep hills
3. listen to your body
4. be smart and reasonable
the morning limp goes away so gradually that you do not even notice it is going away and suddenly one morning you just realise it’ gone. give it some time
cheers
nicolas
FYI, I was non op route.
thanks
Hi Eyceman How’s your heel raise? If you can do single leg heel raise I think your safe..my PT get me to try 2 heel raise and one going down on injured leg. But I’m surgery route.. Good luck Bro..
Like Nico said…Big smile for you!
glen, no single leg heel raise yet. I can do double leg up and come down on the injured leg. I do about 2 sets of 10-15
I worry about this too my friend. I noticed my tendon is really thicker than the non ruptured, which makes me think is healed. My OS told me tho to not over stretch it, don’t jump on it, do sudden moves, lunges until I can do single leg raises. So for right now I’m going along with my protocol, it seems really slow and at times I feel like I can run, but I guess we just need some more patience and to be extremely cautious still.
