Two week check-in
I had my follow-up visit with the doc today - 20 days since my right Achilles tendon rupture and 16 days since I found out I couldn’t have surgery and needed to try the non-op route. That’s when he put me in the boot.
So, today the doc checked out the ankle, and moved it around a bit. Had me push down on his hand with my foot (plantarflexion), and there was some movement there! It looks like I’m healing well! He took one of the wedges out of the boot (down to two, now), and said I can start partial weight-bearing (with crutches and the boot) - about 30-40lbs. And, I can start at-home exercising, but plantarflexion only.
Woohoo! One step at a time!
Happy Healing, everyone!

Sounds like you’re going in the right direction! That’s great news!
Thanks, shell37! So far, things are looking ok. Of course, I know this is a long process, and I’m only 2 weeks in and I have to temper my excitement. But, I’m all for celebrating the little milestones and successes along the way! I think it helps me heal!
Every time I’m able to do a new thing, or get good news, I try to celebrate it and do a happy dance (even if only mentally, since I can’t actually step down on my bad foot, yet)!!! So, instead of dancing, maybe I go out to dinner with my wife! Or, just drink a glass of wine, or a beer, or something! Little celebrations!
I just have to keep reminding myself that this is a temporary injury. I will heal. I will rehab. I will get back to normal - it’s just a few months of inconvenience in the grand scheme of things.
Always try to stay positive! Happy Healing!
