First PT Session
Yesterday, I had my first PT session - 7 1/2 weeks post-op. I’ve been a good boy and have been doing my ROM exercises like the doc instructed. I guess it paid off, cuz my PT said I had really good dorsiflexion and side-to-side motion, but my plantar flexion could improve. Strength is about a 4, on a scale of 1-5, so that’s good, too! The PT went well, and I set up the next 4 weeks - 2x per week for 4 weeks. Tomorrow is my second session. She wants me to bring my left shoe, cuz she’s gonna have me ride the stationary bike and walk on the treadmill! Yikes! That’s scary! I’m gonna have to flex my foot w/ weight on it! I’m a little nervous about that, but she was confident I would be able to do it with little issues!
Wish me luck!

Thanks so much for your kind words on my first post. Congrats on starting PT. I know it can sound scary but it sounds like you’ve set yourself up for success with all your hard work on your ROM. Stay faithful to the process and trust yourself. Curious to hear how you progress. Good luck!
Hi Eric,
Well done on your first PT session. It was quite different to mine. I had my first session today too. I am just ahead of you ATR on 7th Feb. I know what you mean when you say scary, it really is!
I’m at wk 9 and wanted to wait until i saw the physio before i did anything too strenuous. I had been doing my own stretches, flexing and pointing my toes and making circles with my foot and the usual feeling of tightness was present. I was given electro theraphy for approx 15 mins and this was to increase blood supply to the area.
I’m going to swim tomorrow and this will be my first time back in the gym, a little nervous about that too.
I’m back to the physio next week when he should have the surgeon’s notes as well.
For all you guys about to embark on physio, it’s another milestone in your recovery, its very reassuring. Now the hard work really begins.
Best of luck everyone, chin up, we can do this.

Hi Eric, that all sounds great. I am 7 weeks Friday and like you have been told to bring a shoe to my next PT to do some work on the stationary bike, I am scared to be honest, and will take it easy. I think I am a bit of a PT ‘Jessie’ as we would say here in the UK, but I like to be sure I feel ready and ‘in control’!
Good luck, hope your session goes well. All the best.
Thanks, all! I’m sure I’m making myself nervous about the treadmill and stationary bike for no reason. But, I’ve been babying my foot, and it looks like the PT’s not going to allow me to do that, anymore. That’s good!
Good luck to you, too!
Hi Eric…really like reading your posts…gives me hope because I’m not too far behind you. Those first 2 weeks were a doozy. Good luck with session 2 of PT. You can do it!!
