Saw the ortho yesterday for my 4 week post-op and he took out a heel wedge and told me to take out the last one in 5-7 days. Well I can hardly weight bear again (hurts and feels tight) and need to use 2 crutches. He also gave me a prescription for PT- 2 times a week for 8 weeks. I’m hoping to start that at week 6 post-op but haven’t got through to scheduling yet. Incision looks good and scabs are almost gone.

Hi Emily,

This definitely sounds like a “listen to your body” moment. A little ache is one thing, but if this it really painful, it is time to slow down and find a way to get comfortable again. It would obviously be helpful if you had a PT to turn to for advice. Is the doctor’s office helpful when called on the phone?

If you aren’t handling having one wedge removed by 5-7 days, certainly don’t make the mistake of taking out the next one just because the doctor said to do so a week before, unaware of your difficulties. If your body is trying to tell you something, it is wise to listen.

Good luck,

What Doug said.
Just because the DR told you to do a certain thing it doesn’t mean it applies to you.
I’ve had setbacks and it’s good to know we are not all alike.
I’m for calling the Dr, taking a breather by using both crutches.

Good luck.
