3 Weeks Post-Op!

Filed under: Uncategorized — dwolf at 1:13 am on Thursday, October 24, 2013

Today marks 3 weeks from most operation! (Woo hoo!) I can already feel the tendon starting to stretch. I’m able to put a very small amount of weight on the foot, and balance in an awkward stance, but hey, it still looks like progress to me! Can’t wait to ditch the crutches and hopefully start walking next week, as my doctor said I would be able too. Any tips for walking without crutches? Or for first weight bearing? Thanks for the support, and hope everyone has a full recovery!

Hi Dwolf,

Glad to see you get over the first 2 weeks of hell. With that said, the process is normally NWB, PWB, then FWB.

I started with PWB with 2 crutches at 4 weeks, then went to 1 in a few days. I then moved to FWB with 1 crutch, then none (between a week 4-6 period). At this point, you also need to start doing some ROM work to get your PF to 0, but slowly.

Check out protocols on this site to map out a plan. Like most docs, they give you very little and just expect things to happen.

Some Protocol links: http://achillesblog.com/pgat2013/2013/09/18/post-op-protocols-weeks-1-6-plus-1-20-week-protocolconcept-4-12-week-exercises-norms-no-op/

I’m sure others will comment, but be careful and go slow.

Good luck,
Ron

No problem. I feel your pain, joy, etc. LOL.

With that said, hopefully Norm, Kellygirl and others will chime in because I’m sure they have some great advice.

BTW, I will be publishing my protocol with new exercise links later tonight, and asking for input from the community and my Ortho.

Good luck,
Ron

I’m at 4 weeks and today was my first day without crutches. At first it’s awkward, but I’m starting to get the hang of it. No pain, just ROM issues and the fact that one leg is higher up than the other. I’ve ordered the vascoast with the higher-ups and think that should be an improvement over my aircast.

I’d defiantly recommend PWB first, before you move to FWB.
