Hi all, Thanks so much for the comments. Day 1 post op repair under spinal last night. Extremely rough night with some srious pain so a bit groggy and battered today. Well looked after by the Hospital here in Sheffield. Trying to rest with leg up today and in NWB below knee fibre glass pot.Plan is check in 2 weeks then into an air cast boot with heel wedges over next 4 weeks. I has a complete ruture 5 cms from heel insertion , also a partial soleus rupture and some medial ligament damage. All in all a thorough mess. Really heartening to have supportive comments. I had a spinal as well, much better I thought as I think recovery is much quicker. I know what you mean about the ligament side, I have to go into Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport around the New Year time for repair to right ankle, I was due to have arthroscope for ankle impingement syndrome when I fell and did the achilles on left leg!! Also, when I fell I chipped some bones in the kneecap so that needs repair too.
How come you are to get an aircast boot and not plaster cast for the whole time? I was nearly 10 weeks in plaster.
Anyway, take care and rest, but as a GP you will know that already!.
