Well, it should look like a “Z” or maybe a zigzag line. I did not expect a zigzag line but that’s what I got. I’m curious to know what your surgeon did. Has he said how long he plans to leave the sutures? Mine were in 3 weeks although at one point he talked about possibly 4 weeks.

i’ll get a look at it thursday with my next office visit. the original scar is very low on the back of my calf, from about 1/2 inch from the bottom of my foot extending about another 5 inches up from that. he said the sutures will be in for at least three weeks & keeping me non weight bearing, and no therapy. at least i will not have a leaky foot anymore, just a little disappointed about falling behind a month with therapy.

i made sure to have the anesthesiologist knock me out this time. my second procedure with the orthopedic i only went for the nerve block and stayed awake, hoping to get out of the hospital quicker. big mistake….the way i was strapped down on the operating table i was facing a giant wall clock. i was in a big rush to get out of the hospital with no where to go, and i had the privilege of watching every second tick by for 45 minutes….lesson learned.

the pain is under control with percocet.
GerryR- just wondering how long you were uncomfortable for after you had this?

I had significant discomfort/pain for a couple of days. I also had some real close to excruciating muscle spasms during that same time. After the second one I called the nurse and she said it shouldn’t last more than a couple of days. I told her I needed enough Valium for 2 days and she called it in. Those couple of days would have been just about unbearable without Percocet and Valium. I still have one Valium and some Percocet left and they’re now in my backpacking first aid kit.

i woke up this morning feeling just like you said, with significant discomfort/pain. i left the hospital with enough percocet to last a week, and i’ll be putting them to good use. there’s no point in “toughing” it out anymore.

It’s not common these days to find this type of information. I’m glad I stumbled upon your website. Keep up the good work!
