I remember watching Beckham rupture his achilles playing soccer and I thought man that would suck and thought the chances of that happening to me was not likely until I discovered how probable it was….
I had just started playing basketball again after taking a few months off and had gained a few pounds.January 23, 2011 I headed to the high school to play in a 3 on 3 tournament. We had a 3-0 record going into our last game and felt OK physically. I started out at the top of the key and went to drive down the right side of the lane and I just collapsed on the gym floor. Its like I heard a “pop” and everything went black. I rolled over and was asking my teammates who ran into the back of my leg. They looked surprised and told me nobody was around me. So I limped off of the court thinking I dislocated my ankle but my ankle didn’t hurt. I just couldn’t put any pressure on my toes. I put some ice on it thinking that would help and by the next day it would be fine. Later that night I got on the internet and did a search for ATR injuries as I had a feeling it was more than just a minor injury. I did the “Thompson test” and knew that it was ruptured.
