I remember watching Beckham rupture his achilles playing soccer and I thought man that would suck and thought the chances of that happening to me was not likely until I discovered how probable it was….

I had just started playing basketball again after taking a few months off and had gained a few pounds.January 23, 2011 I headed to the high school to play in a 3 on 3 tournament. We had a 3-0 record going into our last game and felt OK physically. I started out at the top of the key and went to drive down the right side of the lane and I just collapsed on the gym floor. Its like I heard a “pop” and everything went black. I rolled over and was asking my teammates who ran into the back of my leg. They looked surprised and told me nobody was around me. So I limped off of the court thinking I dislocated my ankle but my ankle didn’t hurt. I just couldn’t put any pressure on my toes. I put some ice on it thinking that would help and by the next day it would be fine. Later that night I got on the internet and did a search for ATR injuries as I had a feeling it was more than just a minor injury. I did the “Thompson test” and knew that it was ruptured.

Howdy dkirk! It’s me, Leesa! Glad to see you posting on the site.
I feel that it has been a really great tool for learning stuff and for keeping my sanity through those depressing, first few weeks of recovery.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do. I know exactly what you’re going through, and co-workers gotta stick together, right?!?!?
Anyhow, I hope you’re healing well. You’re at 8 weeks, so I’m guessing you’re starting to wean off your boot or cast and get into 2-shoes?
    Keep in touch, my friend!

Yee-yikes, you guys — I hope it isn’t something in the local ID water! But then, a member of my sailing club tore his ~6 months after I tore mine, so why not?

I tore my first in late 2001 playing 6-on-6 court volleyball, and one of my teammates was close enough for me to accuse him of kicking me. (He hadn’t.) The second was in late 2009 playing 4-on-4 court volleyball, and there wasn’t anybody around for MILES! Besides, by then, I was an “expert”, and knew immediately what I’d done!

I was thinking the same thing about the water up here…crazy! I found out about a week ago that another of our co-workers ruptured his achilles playing soccer.
