I got the ok to toss the boot at the 9 week mark, last Friday.  So nice to be able to just get up and help out again.  Still have a little limp going, but mostly doing ok except I do get quite a bit of swelling in my foot and leg by the end of the day.  I might be pushing it a bit too hard, so I will discuss this with my PT later today.  My scar took a long time to heal to the point that I was allowed to go into the water, didn’t get that until just about the 8 week mark.  I now find that swimming is really comfortable although I need to be careful not to push off.

I’m interested to hear from others about their swelling for the first week of 2 shoes.  It was such a huge relief to get off crutches, and would be just as big of one on 2 shoes if it wasn’t for the swollen foot issues.  When I wake up in the AM my feet look close to the same, but by the end of the day not so much.

I’m non-op and haven’t had much swelling in two shoes. I’ve read that many people use a compression sock to battle the swelling. Perhaps that is an option.

DJ22, congrats to being in shoes again. I got injured playing basketball also. I did not watch the Finals because it reminded me so much of my injury and not being able to play the game I love. I agree with Kellygirl, the compression sock maybe a great idea or you may be able to to a wrap with an ACE Bandage. That is what I am going to try, when I start wearing two shoes again. I am right at 6 weeks.

Thanks for the inputs. At my PT visit yesterday they taped my calf with Kinesio tape. I was very skeptical, but have been please so far with the results. Usually by midday at work my foot would be swollen, but today there is very little at all. I do think it is helping my blood flow.

Soldier J - good luck with your rehab, I will say that the changes for my from week 6 to 9 were huge and the vast majority of my issues are going away. Now trying to focus on PT and getting back into sports that I can do to get back into shape. I was never much of a biker or swimmer, more into sports like basketball, hockey, football, tennis, volleyball, etc. I guess I will just have to find a way to enjoy what I can do and not worry about what I can’t (at least not for another 6 months or so.
