can anyone do down dog yoga?

It’s been 5 months since my FHL transfer and I’m trying to rebuild strength and flexibility. So I’m trying to return to my yoga class. I can do double heel lifts but not really single heel lifts without major hand support. Yesterday I found out I am totally incapable of pushing up on my toes to a down dog pose. It really surprised me. I discovered my toe joint is VERY stiff and incredibly painful. It felt like a knife ripping through my skin. Any suggestions ?

not sure if it’ll help or not - but one of the exercises my physical therapist gave me was to put a towel on the floor (non-carpeted) and put my foot on top of it, then using my toes, pull the end towards me - hope that made sense. Not sure if that would help or not, but it’s they only thing that was given to me specifically for toe strength/exercise.

Don’t know if this advice is sound but yesterday when I told a friend who is a recovered achilles rupture patient that I was going to yoga she said, “don’t do the downward dog!”. So, don’t know if that’s her personal experience or if it was the therapists advice Maybe you should check that out.

Thanks. Since they used my big toe tendon to replace my Achilles I can’t do towel scrunches with my big toe but do try to curl my other toes. I’m working to get my big toe joint more flexible. Sort of wonder if I have adhesions where they connected my big toe to my second toe. I go back to the surgeon in November so I’ll ask about yoga. The nerve that was damaged from the nerve block is starting to come back so it feels like ants are biting me from my knee to my ankle. I know it’s a good sign but really annoying. Don’t know how long it takes for a nerve to heal.

I do not get time for yoga as all of my time is spent on essayshark review assignments for students. However, I would like to start doing yoga as soon as I get an opportunity.
