Does/did anyone ever get a pain at the back of their opposite foots Achilles from all the hopping. i’m finding when i touch my left achilles area it hurts a bit? wondering if its just the extra strain from relying on that one foot for so long, just more aware of my Achilles now for some reason LOL. Also when i have my cast off i will be going straight into shoes walking with crutches would this be classed as PWB or FWB? sorry if that sounds a bit Achilles ‘dumb’ i’m learning everyday thanks to you guys..

dancer..

the opposite foot will get alot of stress…sounds like you may be developing some bursitis…talk with you MD next time. In the mean time ice that area and it should help some.
PWB…partial weight bearing means you are using some support to keep weight off the area..so with a crutch you are PWB.
FWB…full weight on the area, no support.

Hope all goes well..

Yes absolutely, The opposite achilles was very sore and hopping is not good for the pain. Mine seemed to get worse when I hopped around but the strain you put on the one leg seems to make it stronger as you go. (use the crutches opposed to the hop). The first 2-3 weeks were painful on the other Achilles but eventually mine seemed to get stronger and the pain subsided. When I first had the injury it was next to impossible to press up with just the one good leg, but now I can go from sitting to standing without any pain and much effort. Its amazing how your body gets better at balance, coordination and strength as you allow your ATR to heal and stay off of it. Hang in there and dont punish your good leg too much.

Thank you for your reply’s i think that it may be like you said i’ve been hopping around without crutches too much at home etc too much stress on right foot i am going to ice it and use my crutches more aswel keeping up with the stretches.

I also got my ATR through dancing, and since I’m Irish, part of my upbringing were obligatory Irish dance lessons - here in San Francisco. We four sisters never pursued any of that further, but I went on to many other types of ethnic dancing from around the world, esp. Eastern Europe.

In any case, I wanted to say, yes, I started also to feel some pain in the other, the good foot’s, Achilles, and almost went into a panic. I have not been out of my cast yet, so I am taking it easy, although I am walking FWB on this cast since 15 days post-op. Now I am wincing at any form of sports and dancing, and hope I will not lose my life energy because of this injury. But who knows? When I feel better, well, then I will think differently, I hope.
