Has anyone had to go up a shoe size after surgery? I just tried on my brand new pair of Air Jordans. I usually wear a size 12. Out them on and my foot felt crammed in them. I went and grabbed another pair of shoes I haven’t wore in a while and same thing. I am wondering if it isn’t due to the thickened Achilles area.

Yes, I did.
My PT suggested that I start buying two pairs of shoes, in different sizes (although I did not do that - I just bought the bigger size).
The good news is that your foot goes back to the original size eventually. It has been six months since my surgery, and I am back in all of my original shoes.
Well, all the shoes except my extremely high heels, and any dress shoes that have stiff, rigid backs - those are just too uncomfortable.

Today I tried on my old Cross Trainers and my injured foot felt very tight within the show, but my heel has a large bump near the bottom of the incision (Anyone else have one of these?) This bump and some light sweling was the culprit and I believe it will decrease with time.

When I first skied at 17 weeks after my second ATR (non-op), I could only do it with a very thin ski sock on “that” foot. I don’t know if that’s still true or not, because I’ve switched to those thin socks for both feet! I don’t think I noticed anything similar with regular shoes or boots, though, but ski boots are very tight AND very stiff, so every mm matters. . .
