Doctor gave me bed rest for two weeks. It is so tough not being able to do anything at all. I have been watching so much tv. I have been watching baseball and golf and can’t wait for the day I can get back on the golf course. I had to give up my Houston Astros tickets last Friday night because of the bed rest order. And then idle time can also be evil. I was looking up Achilles surgeries for athletes and saw a story or two where th athlete reruptured their Achilles. So now I am paranoid about doing that. I am afraid to even get off the couch.

Hi, sounds tough…not clear why you have to be on bed rest? Is it just to keep the leg immobilised or are there other reasons?

Yup, just to keep me immobilized. I basically have been assigned to my couch with my leg elevated.

Wondering if you could get hold of a wheelchair with an elevated leg rest for a while.

Good Morning - yes, bed rest is tough. I am on day 12 of 14 days of bed rest. I have a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday morning and will be released (hopefully) by my orthopedic doctor to go back to work on Thursday. It has been tough not getting to go outside and play, however I have found things to do so that I am not too frustrated. I have worked on my Achilles blog, my leadership blog, which will turn into a book and I have taken the opportunity to read, meet with people, and yes even watched a lot of television. Be encouraged, the time will pass. I learned a lesson last week - may attitude has everything to do with how the time passes. When I got extremely frustrated (this time last week) I started moving toward depression. But then I had the opportunity to go to the hospital and have my cast redone. The trip out was enough to shake me out of the funk and shifted me back to a state of mind - a positive state of mind - that got me through this weekend and will get me through till Wednesday. Hang in there and get creative about what you are doing while hanging out on the couch. Blessings!

My iPad has been my savior. And luckily there have been a lot of sports on tv. I am still in good spirits, but it’s like cabin fever. And I think I have a list of golf clubs to buy once I am able to golf again!
Once my doctor clears me I think I wil take a walk around the block on my scooter.
