1st Week Pre-Op

The same night that I tore my achilles, I drove myself to the Emergency Room. Mind you, my torn achilles is my right foot. I was taking a big chance. The wait in the waiting room was about 2 hours before I was seen. They took me to get my X-ray within the first 30 minutes I was there. I had already looked up achilles injuries during my wait and I was pretty confident that mine was torn. I knew about the Simmond’s/Thompson’s test, so i knew what it meant when the PA did it. But any who, the PA came in and did my examination and told me that she thought that I had torn it but she really couldn’t be sure because the hospital didn’t have the proper equipment to find out. As you can imagine, I was very dumbfounded when she said that but I just said Ok and kept it going. I was beyond ready to go. She put me in a splint that forced my foot into a 90 degree angle. That pain was so excruciating I wanted to cry and I hadn’t cried since I initially injured myself. She prescribed me Ibuprofen 600 and Percocet and gave me an orthopedic doctor to follow up with.
