Second Appointment
I had my second appointment on Monday (4/18/2011). It had been 2 1/2 weeks since my surgery. They took the staples out of my leg, which hurt a little, but I was told to take a pain pill before I went in there. They worked on stretching my foot up into the neutral position and gave me another cast (my 4th one). I didn’t quite reach 90 degrees, but it was definitely better than having my toes pointing straight down. I have another appointment in 2 weeks, and I am hoping I will be able to get a boot. I have been so depressed because my active life has been put on hold and I can’t exercise. I am a big tennis player and runner. With the hope that I may get a boot in two weeks makes me happier because I can see the end of the road!
My foot really seems fine, and I think I am ready for some weight bearing activities, but I will have to wait until I have the cast off. I guess that is why they make us wear casts because we don’t have a chance to reinjure it!!!

gee connie why have you had so much casts? i read above that your on your 4th one.
Can you do upper body exercises? I asked my doc and he gave me the okay as long as I don’t bear any weight on the recovering leg. I get restless just sitting and laying around so it’s nice that I can at least do pushups, pullups, abs etc.
I was back at the gym 1.5 weeks after my surgery doing my upper body and abs….plus with cast or boot as weight for leg lifts…one leg pushups are awesome for core work.
I think it helped tremendously both mentally and physically. At least while AT leg was wasting away the rest wasn’t and my quad didn’t suffer nearly as bad as it could have since I was NWB for 6 wks and it was two more after that before I could do any decent leg work
hang in there Connie it does get better
