1. that the surgery was successful and recovery is going smoothly.  So many things can go wrong with injuries and surgeries and recovery, and — other than the injury itself — things are going as well as could be hoped.

On Monday all 27 stitches came out and a new cast got put on.  Everything looked and felt good.  The foot is more dorsiflexed than before, and I can feel the pull.  The new cast is nice and tight (and as close to Hoya blue as I could get); I was really starting to flop [...]
