8 month post after second surgery

I am excited that I really do not notice any problem any more under normal conditions…walking around or walking fast on the treadmill about 4.5 speed. My calf is still only about 50% of the good leg and strength has a long way to go for real explosive power.  I am continuing to do the toe raises but can still not do a full toe raise on the bad leg. I am going to go back to doing the resistance band daily.

Glad to hear of your progress. I remember reading your post of the rerupture. You have no idea how careful you made me during my recovery. I have not worn flip flops since before my accident!! Maybe this summer….

Sounds like a long haul.
What did you ever find out about riding a bike and how soon did you get back on it or start riding after your second rupture.
Jeff

I agree. I usually wear sandals during summer time. Not sure about wearing them this year. I’m 7 months post OP. I too am very careful of where I step, and not to step on any uneven pavement. As far as running, I’m able to do a fast walk. Nothing explosive. I’m also very careful of my uninvolved Achilles. The healthy one. LOL Wouldn’t want that one to rupture. Don’t see myself playing any sports. Now I watch alot of sports, as for playing, just don’t see it.

Take care all

Glen

Hello Chip,

I am 33. I had my first ATR on Feb 22, 2009. On April 13, 2009, while walking on crutches, I had my second ATR (same tendon). I am on my 11 week after surgery and the PT says we should not do stretches on my tendon (I have been doing that before I got to this PT) I can walk now with limping and swelling arond my ankle.

Based on your experience, do you think I should do stretches to recover the full dorsiflection?

Thanks and the best for you.
Edgar

Hello Chip,

How are you? How is the calf going now?

I wanted to asked you something:

I am 3 months after my second surgery. I can walk now for 15 minutes. My flexibility is still on 90 degrees or so. Does the dorsiflection gets better? Does it get as good as the healthy foot? Based on your experience, what do you think?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Take care and have great day.

Best,
Edgar

Hi Chip I’m 37 ATR on 2/27/20 (I was just walking) and #2, on same tendon, 4/16/20 ( riding a bike with my young kids). I’m 7 weeks po scheduled to be recasted on Monday with my foot at neutral. I’m not a fit person and I don’t enjoy exercising so I’m not looking forward to and down right scared about what’s going to happen in the next phase of my recovery.

I’m hoping that the PT may force me to change my habits and I can become a more fit person. Man straight up I’m terrified of it rupturing again so how would you rate walking, riding a bike, running, and swimming from safest to least safest?

Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for any advice it’s much appreciated. God Bless

Chris
