One Month Post Op Update - boot for 10 days

Getting in the boot after 20 days or so was great. I used the crutches for the first 10 and have rarely used them the last ten days. Walking FWB was been excellent PT. I have been doing the basic ROM exercises and just added a new one. I have the exercise bands (surgical tubing with a handle basically). I put the handle over the pad of my foot and pull back to create tension and then do foot extensions back and forth. No soreness from anything except for my heel. After walking awhile my heel feels bruised almost. It is tempting to try a tennis shoe. I have my next appt with my doc on the 21st. I am very excited about where I am one month post op. I would recommend to others who read this and are facing surgery to do your homework. I put info in a previous post about Dr. Myerson who had his patients in a boot 10 days post op. I look forward to starting a formal PT program. My goal was to be able to play a golf tourney with my Dad starting June 9 - I am confident I will be able to now.

Great news! I’m only 4 days post op and I’m hoping after 10 days to be in a boot.

hey chipintn
i am at the same point as you
boot after 21 days post op
now 28 days postop - started to walk around with one crutch - kind of nervous although this my second achilles rupture-(8years ago-other foot but cant remember the protocol-played gold sfter three months)
i hope to play by the and of may- maybe with a limp but it is my right foot and i think that takes less pressure from the golf swing

do you have a boot that you change the angle each week to increase your mobility. i have one but everybody else seems to have wedges???
anyways good luck with your progress

Chip,

Sounds like you are on a great path to recovery I am 56 weeks into my recovery and not there yet had to go back in to remove large amounts of scar tissue, the sutrues opened post op used a wound vacum for awhile. best advise is pay attention to the doc and work hard through your pt good luck

Great to hear! I was wondering if anyone has had a conservative repair of their re rupture? I have a long story where I ruptured my Achilles playing netball 11 months ago with surgery. Never really recovered and was still limping up until a few weeks ago when I reruptured. It’s due to an infection from the screw anchor in my heel bone. Currently had first surgery to remove infection and on high strength antibiotics, but thinking that I might try conservative first this time around
