Achilles tears - no relief. Surgery?
Hello~ 15 weeks ago I injured both tendons while sprinting to catch a plane. Ten years ago I had injured one with a tennis injury. I am 54 years old and have played competitive tennis for over 45 years! (an old lady!) The Surgeon said that I have tears in both tendons and recommended PT which I did for 3 months. No relief - in fact - maybe worse. Have tried ice, heat, anti-inflammatories, electrical stimulation. At this point I have scheduled a followup visit with the Surgeon.
Has anyone had a similar scene? If so do you have any recommendations?
Thank you, Cathleen

Hi Cathleen, I’m older than you (!); had very painful tendonitis/tendonopathy for about six months, making just walking very painful. I also had assorted physio,
anti inflammatories, specialised heel lifts, and after three months guided cortisone injections. Suggested to my GP that I see an orthopod, but he poo pood it, saying that they would just want to operate ! After six months, still trying physio; doing some fairly easy pushing a cane into the ground, gardening, it went. My wife, who was ten yards away, heard the snap and was more upset than I. I’m having a none operative protocol and bought myself a Vacoped boot.
Seriously, get a specialist lower leg surgeon and get his opinion, otherwise you’ll end up with a full ATR
with all that entails. Good luck !
