Rootyk, I had tendinopathy and I found ice ineffective, but warmth did help me. I didn't have PRP but had various other injections. I did end up going down the surgical route. (Ice did help with the post op swelling). Hope all goes well with the PRP, I'm interested to hear the outcome.

I had a PRP injection in my Achilles on October 11, 2011. My choices were PRP or schedule surgery. Mine is a different situation. I suffer from chronic tendinopathy. I wore the air cast and did therapy with ice and ultrasound. No improvement after 6 weeks. I tried the injection because I felt like I should try everything before committing to surgery. It been a little over a week and I still need to use the boot from time to time because of the pain.

It has been 6 months for you, how are you feeling?

Thanks for posting those points. I wasn't following your lead as such - I was on that path myself anyway, and I have got (a) in common with you.

I'm going fast but not too fast (I hope). Will keep following your progress though...

liverpoolass - thanks for the tip

danair - i don't regret ditching the crutches early, but keep in mind that my full rupture was (a) near the calf and (b) treated with a prp shot. it's possible that both of those factors are meaningless, but i just wanted to throw it out there in case you re-rupture based on following my stupid lead.

Don't know if it is a basketball mentality, but I am doing almost the same thing as you did some weeks ago (I just read back through all your posts). I am two and a half weeks in, with a non-op basketball-induced full rupture. Apart from the initial shotgun-to-the-leg pain, I have not been in any real discomfort since my leg was stuck in a vacuum splint to get me to A&E. So I started experimenting with a bit of weight last week and have pretty much ditched the crutches for getting round the house. I have been in an boot from day 3. I have the same 'if it don't hurt, it can't be bad approach'. The only adverse effect is the sore ear I have got from my wife telling me not to rush it all the time.

I could never dunk to start with, but the rest of the things you want to get back to, I want too. Good luck, heal well and keep me posted! Going to follow you closely (at a distance of about 12 weeks).

Sound slike you're doing really well to me. The calf raises will come just need to keep up the two legs. Try up on two down on one that really helped me. My physio reckons when you can do 15 you're pretty much ready for anything!

Sounds great, I suffered only a partial tear and I was FWB in 5 weeks, since the physio is a friend of mine she has been working with me when I get to the gym. So I have been biking and doing a bit of very very easy strength and stretch.

Next week the real physio starts, but my hope is to be with an almost normal gait in 2 weeks, just in time for the Chi Running seminar, No I won't be running, but I am hopeful to participate in the exercises and drills where I can the premise is a flat footed mid strike rather than the typical heal strike.

Did run into the ortho surgeon at the pool this morning, he seemed to think that if I can run flat footed I can go whenever I feel comfortable but ensure I listen to my body and be very careful. I think running is till August or September before I can think about training again.

As I've posted before, the authors of the UWO study found NO relationship between gap location (or size!) and the (impressive) success of their non-op protocol. Except for the instant FWB (and the delayed PT), you've been pretty close to their protocol.

In other words, your OS's explanation may be right, but the only scientific evidence on the subject says he's not. Admittedly there were only 25 patients on the non-op side of the UWO study who had early UltraSound exams, so the evidence is thin, but it's all we've got, AFAIK.

Good luck with your goals; you're doing great so far.

I'll be 7 weeks post surgery tomorrow and it sounds like you and I are on the same schedule. I have been walking in the boot for the past 2 weeks or so and yesterday I put a pair of my running shoes on and walked (not fast) without the boot. I felt awesome. My tendon is tight, which I expected but I have no pain, just like you. I havent started PT yet either, and my appt is next week at the surgeons. I'm thinking 'two thumbs up'....so far, so good!!

And casegreen1's doing this aggressive treatment withOUT surgery, unlike doug53 and others who've "pushed it" with the help of some sutures. . .

Continued good luck!
