7 Weeks Non-Op
September 12, 2012 by carissa321
So, it’s been a couple more weeks … and I’d say I’m doing pretty darn good
Two weeks ago, so week 6, I did one crutch around the house and two when going out. The last couple of days I’ve been doing no crutches at home and two crutches when going out. So far, so good.
I’m not having much pain any more .. just a stabbing pain here and there .. lasts a second and then is gone. The pain is right in the achilles area. No more pain on the top of my foot and the sides of my ankle (right on the bones, or in the bones) have stopped acting up as well. My knee is bothering me a bit .. but that’s not surprising since I landed on it when I collapsed when my achilles ruptured. I’m sure that’ll go away soon enough.
I FINALLY have a doctors appointment this Friday. We’ll see what they have to say. I’m sure they’ll be surprised … mad .. glad … whatever that I’m off crutches at home .. I was supposed to do PWB for 6 weeks at 20-30 pounds. This is why I’m saying I “FINALLY” have a doctors appointment. I can’t believe that they saw me once and sent me away for 6 weeks.
I’m still doing my own PT. Doing the gentle movements, spelling the alphabet, and some gentle kicking in the hot tub.
Still haven’t gone “out” on my own. Hubby takes me everywhere. I can’t wait to be able to run to the grocery store by myself! It’s those little things.
Anyways, it feels good and I’m not worrying about a thing. I’m being careful, yes, but not worrying myself about whether or not I’ll re-rupture or whatever. If it happens, it happens and I’ll deal with it then
Happy Healing!!
Carissa,
Good to hear you are progressing along with your recovery. FWB at 7weeks sounds a little conservative but not too much, so your doctor should be okay as to where you are at. Let us know how your formal PT sessions go. I’ll be interested to see how they compare to mine.
You might want to print out the UWO study and protocol as “ammunition” in case your Doc gives you a hard time. I’m pretty sure their results were better than his. . . and if not, he should publish!
Hi Carissa,
I’m curious to know how the tendon feels back there. I’m about 8 weeks non-op. Passed the thompson test and it feels pretty solid. However, I can feel a slight crease right where the two ends must have connected. It’s pretty subtle, but it’s definitely there. Are you able to feel the point in the tendon where it broke and reattached? Or is your tendon pretty straight and smooth all the way through? Just wanted to compare notes. Thanks.

Mine was like that a month ago…less so now at 12 weeks– but I do have a pretty big knot right above the rupture sight that the dr. said will go down. The knot got bigger when I started walking without the boot. I am non-op also.
@starshep - thank you
I don’t think I could’ve gone any quicker to the FWB .. I started once if felt okay and I had no pain when I took a step. I don’t think pain is a good thing *lol* I’ll definitely blog on the PT once I go
@normofthenorth - I think I’m on track for the UWO, aren’t I?
@californiaguy - the tendon feels great .. if I search I can find a slight indent where the ends met up .. but there isn’t as much of an indent as a week ago.
@frustratedcoach - I have that big knot too .. but it’s below the rupture. I sure do hope that that will go down eventually, otherwise I’m screwed when it comes to wearing shoes because the big knot is right above my heel. Just curious, are you in two shoes now? if so, when did you do that?
