Tight cast

Well clinic squeezed me in to enable me to get a new cast. The cast I have from surgery feels extremely tight and uncomfortable. Like its too narrow for my foot. Was unsure if this was just normal post surgery pain though. From reading other posts some people seem to have the burning pain for quite some time and others don’t seem to suffer at all. I wander if the type of immobilization has an effect on this. For example full cast vs boot vs back slab ect. Was seen by lovely lady in the cast room. They really do look after me in there. Most of them know me by name had a quite a few casts over the years. Do have tendency to crash motorbikes ect.
She looked at my post surgery cast and to my relief said no wander I was in pain. She made comment along the line that surgeons good at surgery however not so when it comes to plaster.
Once the cast had been removed it gave me a chance to see my operation site. I couldn’t take of the dressing because only 5 days post op. But from the size it became apparent that the surgeon had managed the op pecantanousely another made up word by me. I really can’t spell if you hadn’t already noticed.
Anyway nice new fibre glass back slab. Half the weight half the discomfort. Ideal for my flight to Cyprus on Saturday.

  1. Hi

These fibre glass ‘casts’ are good aren’t they? What colour did you go for? If you are lucky, in 2 or 3 weeks or so, they’ll fit you with a Robocop type boot and increase your mobility quickly but safely.

    Enjoy Cyprus.

  2. My first cast was way too tight also! I had them wrap extra padding in the second one as my leg changed size throughout the day from swelling. Icing helped a lot to reduce that. LOVE the boot!

  3. Didn’t get a choice if colour but with it being a back slab you cant see it any way. I would have had pink like yours Kim just to show that I’m in touch with my feminine side. Feeling good today better nights sleep and eased off the pain relief. Still getting the dreaded purple toes if I’m stood up but that seems to be easing aswell.

  4. Sounds good, Cam. If you add a title to this page (where “Hello World” used to be), it will be easier for others to find and read.

  5. I found that my cast was pretty tight for the first couple days. after about two weeks I could get four fingers in to scratch the itches. :)

    Enjoy your trip.

  6. Boots rule. Try to educate your medical servants. If you’re eventually going to get a boot, why not save the money for the ill-fitting casts?

  7. Thanks for all the well wishes for my trip. Just a quick update Cyprus was fantastic. I took my dads spare wheelchair just to be on the safe side plus it meant I always had somewhere to sit and elevate my leg. I informed my airline and they where fantastic giving me extra leg room and assistance during check in. I wish I could say the same for the transfer company that refused to take me to my hotel. They said there was no room for the collapsable wheelchair. I needed to get my own taxi! At a cost of £70. I rang the office to sort out transfer back. I was then informed that I would need to make my own arrangements yet again another £70.
In conclusion if anybody is taking a chair with them don’t assume your transfer will be a mini bus or coach. It might be like in our case just a four seated taxi shared with others.
