Day 36 - Just another day in paradise

Published by c17loadmaster at 21:36 under Uncategorized

Well its been awhile since my last post but I must admit I haven’t really been overly energetic about my daily routine. All the days seem to run into one another when you have so much to do. My kids are keeping me busy each day and I took someone’s advice and make sure I go outside for an hour or two every day so I don’t get cabin fever.

I am on my second cast which put my foot in a 90 degree position so progress is being made. The cast loosened up a bit so I have been able to stretch my achilles tendon a little more. The stretching feels really good so hopefully the rehabilation goes well next month. They have me scheduled for a walking boot next week and with some luck a rehab schedule too.

Hang in there :-) Getting outside daily is a MUST…I was cooped up for a few days when I had my cast and it just messed with me emotionally. Your energy will come back with time. Good luck at your next appointment, life will be much easier once you get the walking boot!

Good luck with getting the boot, just got into mine and it does make things a bit more comfortable. You’re right about days blurring into one another. I reckon this injury is as much a mental trial as a physical one….

I’m surprised how many places keep giving work to cast techs, even tho they EVENTUALLY provide a boot. Waste of time & $, AFAICS, since the same boot can do the job from day 1 — or at least after a wk or 2 in an absorbent splint for the messy surgical crowd. Better for the patient, too, for many reasons.

Good luck w/ the boot. It’s your friend for a decent while, and really does help. I think the time will start to go fairly quickly.

Norm, despite being part of the “messy surgical crowd” pond-side, I was booted two weeks post-surgery from the splint. All other things being equal, I agree w/ you but I don’t know why one Dr. insists on the cast and another the boot.

loadmaster, all the best and I think you’ll greatly enjoy being more mobile.
