8 days post op & getting my first cast
From reading this site it appears that there is really no standard way to recover from this surgery, althought NWB for the first month seem pretty standard. My surgeon it taking me through a series of four casts (1/week for 4 weeks) slowly bringing up the angle of my foot. If I’m lucky and can get my foot to ninety degrees by the third cast, then I can save myself the trouble of the last cast (fingers crossed) and get straight into the boot.
So 8 days post-op I headed in to get my first cast (see picture below), the surgeon told me to not put any weight on the cast at all, but that would be pretty impossible given the angle of my foot. The casts feels great and I am so much more mobile now getting rid of the heavy bandages.

Still feeling some tingling in my toes but that didn’t cause my surgeon too much concern, other than that everything is progressing as well as can be expected.

Good luck! That’s kind of weird that you have to get a new cast every week, but then again every surgery/recovery is different. Well I went through 1 plaster cast and 2 hard cast’s in like 6 weeks. I just got my aircast about couple of days ago. Yeah the recovery time sucks I’ve been told not to put any weight on my right leg still for about another 4 weeks till my next ortho appointment. Make sure to elivate your leg and wiggle your toes a lot! It’ll help the with the swelling a lot.
Once again good luck to you with the recovery and all as I sit here trying to recover myself =)
