21 weeks. 1 leg. 10 times.

At 21 weeks to the day, I was able to do a single leg calf raises. It was five days later than my PT had predicted. It’s been a huge mental gain for me as I didn’t think it would ever happen. All the other milestones just came naturally without much thought: I just stopped [...]

Some Slow Running

I’ve returned back to my pre-injury weekly fitness routine (obviously at lower intensity) - a couple of sessions with a personal trainer, mixed in with some spin classes. But I think I need to focus a bit more on “rehab”. I thought by doing full body workouts the calf muscle and strength would come back.
My [...]

Oooooch!

Saw this while watching hockey on TSN this evening. It will be hard for anyone on this site to watch the video - I could only watch the replay once.
Maybe we should invite Karlsson to join our blog.

All is Well in the Universe

I just past the 18 week mark and just had my last appointment with the Orthopedic Surgeon… ever. He said everything looks good and he won’t be seeing me anymore. With every visit he reminds me of what a pest I was after my ATR. He reminds me of how skeptical I was going non-operative [...]

15 weeks. Feeling normal, out of shape, but normal.

I’m feeling very “normal” these days. I guess normal being, I no longer feel injured. I have a slight limp and my calf muscles are still somewhat weak. I’m able to to walk down stairs but the single leg calf raise hasn’t happened yet. The swelling is gone and I haven’t iced my ankle in [...]

12

I find it funny that I now live my life in weeks. Probably the only other group of people to do so, are expecting mothers. I’m happy to announce that I’ve made it through my first tri-semester of ATR recovery. I mentioned in earlier posts that my physical therapist was “more talk less walk” than [...]

Some Balance

I’m now at 11 weeks and I feel this past week is the first time I’ve experienced some minor setbacks. I think to many Christmas parties and not enough therapy is to blame. Standing and socializing at Paul’s company Christmas party for just a few hours wiped me out last weekend. I’ve also been doing [...]

10 Weeks Non-op, the Urine Pool is My Friend

I haven’t been posting much these days mostly because I’m recovering nicely and I have nothing out of the ordinary to report. I think my blog was much more entertaining when I was a pathetic ‘bride to be’ struggling to get through a wedding and life in general. But I remind myself that sharing my [...]

Next Boot, a Ski Boot? Eight Weeks Non-op.

I had my eight week non-operative check up yesterday and left crying. Yes, I’m being dramatic for effect. I was so happy with my appointment, I had a little cry while I waited for my ride. Funny, I didn’t shed a tear at the hospital when the rupture happened.
Everything looks really good and Dr Duffy [...]

In Memoriam - Scoots

This weekend I asked Paul to return my knee scooter to the medical rental shop. She hasn’t been used much since our wedding four weeks ago. In fact, after the wedding Scoots just became an expensive coffee cup caddy between the kitchen and my home office.  For the most part I tried to use my [...]
