The Botox Doctor Breaks the News

Not realizing just how serious my injury was, I left the gym with my ice pack and tensor bandage and headed to a spa appointment. I arrived an hour early because I just wanted to sit and ice my ankle in the lobby. A nurse came out to take a look and suggested I lay down on one of the treatment tables where I could elevate my leg. Because this particular spa provides both spa and medical aesthetics, she was able to grab a doctor to check me out. He gently touched my ankle and told me I had a serious achilles injury. Sigh. He called the Foothills Emergency Room and I called for a ride.

While waiting for my ride the doctor told me I could still get my Botox injections. I chuckled and told him I wasn’t there for that, but just wanted a simple microderm facial scrub and perhaps a pedi/mani.

Doc:  ”We still have time to do your Botox but I’m not sure that’s really ethical in your situation.”

Me:  ”That’s okay, I’m not here for Botox.”

Doc:  ”But if you really want, I can do the Botox.”

Me:  ”Why? Do you think I need Botox?”

Doc:  ”You look not bad.”

Me:  ”Maybe because I’m elevated downwards.”

Doc:  ”Well, there’s always Botox.”

Me:  ”I don’t think I would like needles in my face.”

Doc:  ”So why did you come here for Botox?”

Me:  ”I didn’t come here for Botox.”

This continued for several minutes until my ride arrived. The doctor’s teasing took my mind off this lousy situation for a few minutes. I’m grateful for his help and if I ever decide to get Botox, I’ll go to him.

21 weeks. 1 leg. 10 times.

At 21 weeks to the day, I was able to do a single leg calf raises. It was five days later than my PT had predicted. It’s been a huge mental gain for me as I didn’t think it would ever happen. All the other milestones just came naturally without much thought: I just stopped [...]
