Ugly wound and 1st Boot
Just got my moon boot on today at (20 degrees plantar flexion) and had a suspision when they took the cast off that the wound may be a bit oozy which it was. Did anyone else have any problems with their wounds? There is a piece the size of a 5c coin that has opened slightly and is a bit weepy at the bottom of the wound which means it is going to have to be dressed by the doctor until it clears completely. Apart from that small concern I am sooo pleased to be out of that cast. Guess I’ll just have to wait a bit longer before I can have a shower without a plastic bag on my leg… Ho Hum.

Two things that scare me the most about this whole cluster @#$%: 1) Infection, and 2) Blood Clots.
Both very serious and both needing quick action on your part and your Dr.’s part. I would strongly suggest a Dr. visit to look at that oozing.

B2B,
I had wound issues of a really small part of the incision. Nothing too serious, but it’s really important to keep an eye on any part of the incision not closing. I’m not sure where you are in the post surgery timeline, but at the 6 weeks mark, it should be well closed. If not, talk to your doc about additional care. If it changes colors, looks otherwise irritated, or has any pain associated with it, do not delay. You’re in a cast, so you really can’t get it wet, but I used a leg bag for my showers until the 6th week!
I was just at an appointment today at a specialized wound care wing of a local hospital, as referred by my surgeon. The wound is essentially healed, however, when the doc went to debride, a pencil-head-sized part of the incision was still a little open. It’s the small things that you never know about, so keep your eye on it.
