8 weeks

Posted on September 27th, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brad

Well, 8 weeks tommorow

Officially I am FWB, aircast with a single wedge. (next appt in one week)

But I’m spending *some* time with street shoes, single wedge.  Actually I have a single wedge in each shoe for better height alignment.

Tendon feels great and my thinking is

  • Many people are in shoes at 8 weeks
  • I am being extremely careful, slow and cautious in my movements
  • I want to get some resistance and effort to my calf muscle

But I have the boot and will wear it most of the time until my next appt.  But sooo nice to see both shoes on again

Good to hear you are getting some time in two shoes. At 8 weeks I would have needed a much larger shoe on my left foot because of swelling. Being able to wear two shoes is very liberating, even if you can’t do a whole lot in then quite yet. Have you started PT yet? Seems like you should have by 8 weeks.

I was non-operative so most all of my swelling was gone by the time I went to the aircast (~ 4 weeks). The shoes is tighter but not by much.

at slow speed i can walk reasonably well. the things holding me back are:
    fear of re-rupture
fear of tendon lengthening (ie too much dorsiflexion too early)

PT (formal) will start with the next visit. pretty much clear to do anything at below neutral, dorsiflex TO neutral.

Great to read someone who has gone the non op route and having such success.

Hey, you’re about on par with me, just had my 8 week doc visit and was cleared for 2 shoes. Liberating isn’t it….even we’re not power walking yet or anything.

I’m at 8 weeks tomorrow also. I also went the non-operative route and seems to have healed well. I’m wondering how much you’d have to do to re-rupture. Last night I accidentally overstretched and felt a twinge, its not swollen or anything today so i guess its fine, i’m just so scared of going back to square 1…would appreciate anyone who has had a partial or full re-rupture telling me what they did, cheers.
