8.5 weeks post op & I’ve been walking for just over a week unaided. I must say this new found freedom is amazing. Like many of you, carrying a cup of coffee is something I will never take for granted again.
My tendon feels much better than I ever would have thought. The only tightness I feel is the scar tissue under the incision site. But every day it feels better. I haven’t had to ice or elevate after being on my feet at all. If anyone had had told me where I would be so soon even 4 weeks ago I would have laughed! And even though I thought my surgeon’s instructions were a little unorthodox, he has proved me wrong.
The only burden is having to wear my lifted netball shoes, but it beats being on crutches or knee scooter.
Keep faith - it does get easier!
Finally got my modified shoes with the heel lift and off I go. Still using both crutches to assist for now but hopefully can ditch them after a fortnight or so. I am so used to zipping around on the knee scooter that the slow pace of walking will be hard to get used to. Surprisingly it wasn’t as bad as I thought putting weight on it. No pain either is a bonus but I’ll see how it pulls up in the morning.
I went back to work part time this week. I’m getting better at waking up before lunch time and it was good to get back into a routine of some sort. Hoping to build up my hours over the next month and be back to normal soon.
Fingers crossed this progress makes my surgeon happy.
Right, the boot is gone and I feel naked…
Once I have the correct shoe lifts I am off and running..2 weeks & should be crutch free and what surprised me the most, no physio!! I am quite sure specialists don’t like being questioned about their directions…but he knows what he’s doing, he does it for a living as he very politely told me..
So here begins the scariest part of recovery…not sure I’m ready to be in 2 shoes but I’m gonna have to give it a go…
Back to the surgeon tomorrow and I am scared that he is going to put me in 2 shoes and somewhat FWB when I’ve put (almost) no weight on it in 5 weeks. I’ve got a referral to a PT from my GP but no go ahead from the surgeon yet to start. I am very reluctant not being in the boot - funny how it becomes a part of you so soon. Compared to everyone else’s recoveries, I am behind in the WB phase but 2 shoes seems to soon for my liking…maybe we do things different Down Under!!
Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow..
