Sounds like some serious misinformation mixed in with a bunch of good stuff. “Best outcome is surgery” has been disproved in 4 pretty well-done studies starting in 2007 (all linked from my blog). And 6 weeks of NWB on crutches seems like patient abuse, with no evidence to support it.
The 4 studies all produced excellent results (with and without surgery) with schedules more like the one I posted and followed (which is from the latest study, from U. Western Ontario). That has TWO weeks of NWB, then two more weeks of PWB, then “WBAT” = WB “as tolerated”.
Ask your Doc if he’s got a shred of scientific evidence showing that the ultra-long NWB produces acceptable results, or any benefits over the more manageable, survivable, modern, and tested protocols. For most surgeons, it’s just the way somebody taught them — often with even more delay introduced in the mistaken belief that delay is safe or “conservative”. It’s “that sounds sensible” vs. scientific evidence!
